Minutes of the General Assembly Meeting

Athens – Hotel Hilton

Friday 22. September 2006 - 17.30

1) G. Walch welcomed the Executive Committee members and thanked Georgia, Pan Symeonides and John Feroussis for their tremendous work during the past year.

2) The 2006 Athens congress:

They have more than 800 registrations. Despite our reminders regarding the gala dinner, the companies did not register to the dinner and we have to find a better way to attract the participants to this event. G. Walch underlined the great organization of this congress and the high scientific level of the papers.

3) The 2007 Closed Meeting:

P. Habermeyer presented the organization of the closed meeting which will take place near Frankfurt. The congress venue is only 15 min from the airport in a 5 stars hotel. Intercongress will be in charge of the organization for a cost of Euros 5,800. The prices of the rooms will be Euros 140 for a single room and Euros 160 for a double room. The society will cover the gala dinner and the barbecue. The business meetings will take place on Friday. Scientific session will be on Saturday and Sunday until 13.00. He expected 100 people. The deadline for submission of the abstracts is April 31st.

4) The 2008 Congress in Bruges:

G. Declercq presented the Bruges concert hall which will be the congress venue. Large tents will be added in front of the building, where the scientific exhibition will take place. The participants will have to go through the scientific exhibition during the coffee breaks.

An announcement will made at the ICSS in Brazil.

The topics of the symposia and instructional courses have not been chosen.

The registration fee will stay the same as this year. Presidential dinner and a Belgian night are already organised. The cost of the Belgian night will be included in the registration fee.

G. Walch reminded that we accept only one half day parallel sessions.

5) The 2007 EFORT congress:

The EFORT sent us a pre contract which seems to be unacceptable. The SECEC/ESSSE is ready to participate and to organize the scientific session about shoulder surgery. It is now impossible to turn down the proposition for the Florence meeting in 2007. There is no specialty day in Florence. P. Habermeyer and G. Walch will chair a symposia but the EFORT doesn't give us any financial support. G. Walch proposed that 2 Executive members will be in charge of the discussions with the EFORT. P. Habermeyer and J. Willems will be in charge of the discussions with F. Langlais, who is the next President. Our position must be in accordance with the other sub specialty societies. We already know that the spine society doesn't want to cooperate.

The question is : do we consider that the society is officially involved in the Florence congress or do we consider that the members are involved individually ? The EFORT must give us at least free registration and the SECEC will pay for the flights and the accomodation expenses. We have to put pressure on the EFORT.

Registration is free for the speakers and our society will pay for one night accomodation and economic flight.

The Executive committee will present a report in front of the General Assembly next year.

Ekelund.

11) Report from the R & D Committee:

The main task of the R & D Committee will be to provide guidelines for abstract selection. Ralph Hertel reminded that the rule “one speaker, one paper” must be strictly respected. We have to limit the abstracts to 400 words.

N. Pouliart sent to all the members a questionnaire about shoulder scoring. The results will be given to the R & D Committee.

We received only one application to the SECEC/ESSSE research grant. The Executive committee decided to allow Euros 15,000 to this study (C. Charousset and LD Duranthon – France).

A. Wallace and I. Nowak are replaced by L. Porcellini and S. Lambert. R. Norlin becomes Chairman.

12) Report from the Editorial Board of the JSES:

R. Emery announced that despite the difficulties they had with the review process 300 articles have been submitted (until 09/01/06). The Editorial board is looking for additional reviewers. The list of reviewers is published on the back of the Journal.

All submissions and reviewing process are now made through the internet. He receives from the Journal a financial support which seems to be insufficient. Elsevier will be asked to provide a financial help but if they do not agree, SECEC/ESSSE will have to support financially the European editorial board.

R. Emery insisted on the fact that the e-issue is probably the evidence for the near future, which will allow us to facilitate the archiving.

G. Walch thanked R. Emery and F. Gohlke for the tremendous work they have done. P. Mansat enters the Editorial Board in replacement of J.O. Sojejbjerg.

13) Renewal of the Executive Committee members:

The Executive Committee insisted on the key role of the National Delegates.

15) Report from the Treasurer:

The society is healthy thanks to the benefit of the Rome congress (Euros 100,321.73). The most difficult problem is to collect the annual fees. Last year we cancel members who did not pay over the last 2 years. F. Gohlke proposed to show the list of members who did not pay during 2 consecutive years at the general assembly.

After exhausting the agenda, the President dissolved the meeting.
